Questions and answers
Do I need an internet connection?
Only for the initial download. After setup, Soreno works completely offline.
What about my privacy?
Soreno processes everything locally using on-device AI models. No audio recordings or transcripts are sent to external servers.
Which apps does it work with?
Any macOS app with a text field, including Claude Code, Codex, VS Code, Slack, Mail, Safari, Notes, and Pages.
How accurate is the dictation?
Soreno uses NVIDIA Parakeet, a state-of-the-art speech model, running on your Mac's Neural Engine. It outputs punctuated, capitalized text.
Is Soreno free?
Yes. Soreno is free and open source under the MIT license.
Why does macOS warn me when I first open it?
Soreno isn't notarized by Apple yet. The first time you open it, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. After that it opens normally.
What languages are supported?
Soreno is shipping with English today. Broader on-device language support is planned for a future release.
